Pre-Tax Transit Parking

Pre-Tax Transit Parking

The pre-tax transit parking benefit is available for all full time benefits eligible employees without a Harvard Annual Parking Permit. This benefit allows commuters to spend up to $280*/month on a pre-tax basis for work related parking expenses incurred in combination with daily transit, walking, or bicycling commutes.

There are two pre-tax payment options available for eligible parking expenses:

Parking Cash Reimbursement: Arrange for account funds to be reimbursed to you for eligible parking expenses you've already paid. You must first log in to Edenred to elect the Parking Cash Reimbursement option for the future month(s) you wish to claim the reimbursement. Once your order has been placed, pay out of pocket as needed, then file a claim in Edenred for reimbursement. Claims can be processed via direct deposit or check. Claims must be made within 360 days of the eligible parking expense. If funds remain unused after 360 days they will be turned into credit to be used for future eligible expenses.

Please refer to our guide on how to enroll in the parking cash reimbursement program for more information.

Commuter Check Prepaid Mastercard: Add pre-tax dollars to a debit card and use it to pay for eligible parking expenses. You must first log in to Edenred to elect the Commuter Check Prepaid Mastercard option and enter the amount to be added to the debit card on a monthly basis. Once your order has been placed, the debit card will be mailed to you about one week prior to the first benefit month. Please save the debit card because any additional funds will be added onto that same card.

Please refer to our guide on how to enroll in the prepaid debit card program for more information.

The pre-tax debit card for transit and parking is available for all full time benefits eligible employees without a Harvard Annual Parking Permit. This benefit allows commuters to spend up to $280*/month on a pre-tax basis for work-related transit commuting and an additional $280*/month pre-tax in regulated parking expenses. The pre-tax parking benefit is limited to MBTA or other commuter parking facilities and can be used in conjunction with daily and hourly parking at select Harvard facillities. The pre-tax savings should not be used at commercial parking operations in the area. The debit card option is not subsidized by the University. Per IRS regulations, these pre-tax deductions cannot be refunded and can only be used towards eligible transit and parking expenses. Inappropriate use of the debit card will result in the automatic revocation of the benefit.

There are no fees associated with use of the card but if a debit card is not used for six or more months a $3 monthly inactivity charge will be deducted from your Edenred account. Full terms and conditions can be found here.
